Our dream for South Africa is of an open opportunity society for all in which every person is free, secure and equal, where everyone has the opportunity to improve the quality of his life and pursue her dreams, and in which every language and culture has equal respect and recognition.

A party of government
The DA is a party of government, not only an opposition party. We govern in the Western Cape, and are in control of 27 municipalities across the country, including the City of Cape Town metro.We have created more economic opportunities, accelerated service delivery and cut crime. We are helping to improve people's lives where we govern.

A party that can win
In the 2009 elections the DA won 16,7% of the national vote and 67 seats in the National Assembly. Support for the DA has been accelerating, with voters in Cape Town rewarding the DA with a 60.9% share of the vote in the 2011 local government elections and a 57% DA vote across the Western Cape. In 2011, the DA’s share of the national vote was 24%, meaning that one in four South Africans now vote DA.

The DA is the fastest growing political party in South Africa. In 2014 we will increase our majority in the Western Cape and win Gauteng or the Northern Cape, or both. The process of political realignment will be complete when we become a party of government nationally after the 2019 election - either on our own or in coalition with other parties.
