In our efforts to support the people of Cape Town to defeat Day Zero, the Greater Swellendam Municipality has partnered with our local Spar Supermarket, to bring relief and help five organisations reduce their water consumption as a small part of the greater effort to provide this lifegiving resource.
For only R17 you can help to deliver 5lt of bottled water to two orphanages, one old age home, one children’s day care centre and one animal welfare organisation in Cape Town.
How does it work?
An account has been opened with Swellendam Spar where monies can be deposited either directly, via EFT, or paid in at any of the Spar’s cashiers when buying your groceries. This money will then be used to pay for 5 litres of bottled water and will be transported with a Spar delivery truck to these five organisations in Cape Town every week.
All money will only be used to buy water as the Spar delivery trucks will transport these bottles of water back to Cape Town for free. The account will be reconciled every day and all information will be communicated and available for scrutiny by anybody.
For as little as R17 you can help to counter this natural disaster that is gripping not just the Western Cape, but most of South Africa. Let us all, as proud South Africans, come together and help our fellow countrymen and women.
The Mayor of Swellendam, Nicholas Myburgh, has already pledged an amount of R10 000 towards the Cape Town Water Support project at Swellendam Spar.
