Fourteen learners from the DA-led Cape Winelands district municipality travelled to Germany in July this year for a two-week development tour on invitation from the Landesverband Kinder-und Jugenderholungszentren Sachsen-Anhalt.

This organisation’s main objective is to provide children and adolescents from all over the world with opportunities for active recreation and meaningful leisure activities and education

The students, who were chosen from senior secondary schools within the district municipality, engaged with young people from Germany and other countries around the world on topics like nature and environmental awareness and political and volunteer engagements.

The DA-led District municipality assisted the selected students by arranging meet and greet sessions between students, parents, the mayor and municipal manager, as well helping them to obtain the necessary travel documents.

Mayor Helena Von Schlicht said that she was proud of the group of students who represented the DA-led Cape Winelands, as well as the country. This project is in line with the municipality’s vision of building a sustainable economy for the future.
