A Place of Opportunity

In collaboration with local governments, the DA-led Western Cape is bringing free access to information and communication technologies and the internet to rural communities throughout the Western Cape.

In August 2020 Hessequa municipality’s 4th e-Centre opened its doors in Melkhoutfountein.

One of the WCG’s VIP priorities is innovation and culture and the Cape Access Programme is aimed at improving access to government information and services for rural and disadvantaged citizens and stimulating innovation.

At the launch in Melkhoutfontein Premier Alan Winde said the e-centre was a “place of opportunity” and remarked how important it is in this time to connect people from the region to the rest of the world.

A total of 74 of these E-Centres have been opened across the province and assist citizens with everything from digital skill training to searching for bursaries and job opportunities.

Members of the e-Centres get free use of computers, access to the internet and email, basic computer training and limited printing.
