Construction of Lusaka Clinic in Mamelodi is progressing well

15 Feb 2022 in Where We Govern

Recently, in my capacity as MMC for Health, I conducted an oversight visit to Lusaka
Clinic in Mamelodi, Ward 10, to get a project update on its development status.
During the visit I was accompanied by relevant councillors and City officials from the
Health Department.

I was pleased to note that, overall, the project is progressing well, standing at 55%
towards completion. Some of the ongoing work includes earthworks, bricklaying,
electrical and plumbing connections. The anticipated completion date is around
July 2023.

Once completed, the clinic will benefit approximately 60 000 people in Mamelodi East
communities, such as Alaska, Pienaarspoort, Stoffel Park and Riverside.

The clinic will consist of 21 consulting rooms with provision for a full dispensary,
emergency room and all auxiliary functions.

Lusaka Clinic was designed around green building principles that include central
courtyards to facilitate fresh air and solar installations for lighting and water heating.
Despite some delays in the project, I am satisfied that measures have been
implemented to remove stumbling blocks and to ensure that the contractor fulfils the
contractual obligations to complete the project within the allocated time frame and
budget.

The project has so far created 35 job opportunities and contributed to skills
development for residents within the local communities.

I strongly believe that, once completed, the clinic will be a flagship of
healthcare services excellence in the City. However, it is important that
communities support and protect this project.
