Executive Mayor Andries Franken hails from the town of Swellendam where he was born and bred.
Andries obtained his degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of Stellenbosch and used to be a professional rugby player in Europe. Upon returning to South Africa he farmed for 20 years.
Andries’ interest in serving the community prompted him to get involved in politics. His motto is: “Do what you do, to the best of your ability”.
He is married to Lizel who is a Physiotherapist in Swellendam and they have two children, a daughter aged nine and son aged six. He enjoys trail running and mountain biking in his spare time.
Andries’ vision for the Overberg District Municipality it to grow the economy in the Overberg and foster job creation.
