The Atlantis Foundries expansion project, involving the enlargement of their facility, represents a welcome continued investment into the local Atlantis economy

I had the great pleasure of officiating at the opening of the Atlantis Foundries expansion project this afternoon.
Atlantis Foundries currently has 800 permanent employees. When the project started in February 2019, there were 125 temporary employees. Since then, 51 of the temporary employees have been made permanent.
Atlantis Foundries produces automotive castings for the commercial vehicle industry and operates a full machining facility.

In addition to employing 800 people, mainly from the Atlantis area, the contractors hired for the expansion project have been 100% local. This means that the investment and the spin-offs, in terms of services acquired to expand, have been directly into the greater Atlantis community.
This shows that where there is a will, there is a way to attract investment, to grow our local economy and to create the employment our residents need to achieve a more prosperous Cape Town.
One of my priorities is to look at new ways to broaden the economic landscape of the city by growing its depth and diversity.
This includes advancing high-growth sectors by providing skills pipelines and business support to drive demand that makes business sense so we attract investments, which in turn leads to employment.
My team at the Department of Enterprise and Investment has assisted Atlantis Foundries through the provision of an investment incentive since 2013, during which time it has been able to maintain its staff complement.
In addition to this assistance and because the City is serious about supporting and growing the Atlantis economy, we opened the dedicated Atlantis Investment Facilitation Office to help support investors and business people in Atlantis and surrounds.
The AIFO, which sits within the City’s Enterprise and Investment Department, plays a crucial role in assisting investors to navigate through the City’s regulatory environments.
Cape Town is open for business and by providing services to attract and secure investment, we can create a more prosperous city.
